Masters' Message

Gene Hardy - 2012

Greetings from the East!

Brethren:

I am, indeed, honored that you have chosen me to act as WM in 2012. When I joined the Lodge just a few short years ago I had no idea that I would be sitting in the East wearing the Master’s top hat at any point, much less this soon. I thought that a top hat was some-thing worn only in old movies and by Mr. Peanut. Be that as it may, all of the officers are committed to forti-fying the Denver 5 foundation that you have so ably built over the decades.
The officer line, starting with Robert Danko in the West and Robert Salazar in the South, is not only committed to the Lodge for the long term, but is one that I know will make you proud to be a part of Denver 5. With the encouragement and assistance of our imme-diate PM, Mike Scott, as well as some of the other vet-erans, these men having been working for months … since we went dark last summer … making plans for how they can serve the Lodge to the best of their abili-ties. The limits of their imagination were the only bounds for their plans. These are not short term, fly by night, seat of the pants plans; they have been well thought out and are geared toward moving Denver 5 forward for many years to come. These plans will con-tinue to be works in progress, with these guys continu-ally modifying them with new thoughts … with many originating from you, I hope. We’re following the ad-vice of the experts and shooting bullets rather than can-nons, but I know that all of these efforts will add up over time and result in something that will make you proud to have been part of the process.

A significant portion of our first meeting in Jan-uary will be devoted to discussing our 2012 plan. I will set out my thoughts about the Lodge and many of the other officers will give committee reports that will incor-porate their thinking and many of the plans that I men-tioned.
Obviously, the rate of growth for Denver 5 is directly proportionate to the time and effort, as well as other resources, contributed by its Brethren. We are go-ing to ask that each of you contribute some of your tal-ents to the Lodge. Each and every one of you has some-thing unique and valuable that you can contribute. We aren’t going to ask that you participate in something eve-ry day, every week, or even every month. But, come to Lodge meetings when you can, and, additionally and maybe even more important, commit to helping with something once or twice this year. Help once at posting; coach a Brother in floor work; attend one of our visits to another Lodge; bring food for the can drive; participate once in degree work; get involved with a community outreach event; lecture on a Masonic topic; give us your ideas. If you are not in the Denver area send a note re-flecting on your thoughts about the Lodge and Masonry. The possibilities are endless.
Remember, the Lodge is a direct reflection of its Brethren. It can be anything that you want it to be.
Fraternally,
Gene Hardy
