October 2025 Trestleboard

Greetings from the East!

It’s that time of year again! Pumpkins on the porch, decorations in the yard, and half the isles in the supermarket are filled with just candy corn. October is here, and with it comes the spirit of Halloween.

Halloween gives us a chance to pretend, play a role, or temporarily hide who we really are. In a way, the opposite of Masonry where we try to remove any masks and strip away the distractions and false fronts of the world, with the goal of discovering and strengthening who we truly are on the inside.

One aspect of Halloween that does remind me of Masonry is the humble Jack-o’-lantern. A carved-out shell that shines bright with light from within. Maybe a bit of a stretch but perhaps be reminded this month of your Masonic journey as you see them around town.

So please enjoy spending time with Brothers, family, and friends this season. Whether you’re handing out candy, stepping on the crunchy leaves, or just enjoying a hot drink on a cool evening. I hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on your own Masonic path and perhaps make holiday plans with a Brother you haven’t seen in a while.

Fraternally and appreciatively,

Stephen Carlson
