This is another installment in a series where we will introduce some of our members. These are the up-and-coming leaders of our Fraternity. These are men from all walks of life. Fathers, sons, husbands… and we all call each other Brothers. These are just some of the stories behind Denver Lodge No.5.

Michael Rotert lives in Westminster, Colorado and is a proud husband, father of four boys and Mason.  He owns and runs an importing business that is also located in Westminster.  When he isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his family, shooting and designing and building furniture.

He has been a Brother at D5 since April 2016.  He enjoys many aspects of Freemasonry, particularly the fellowship with the diverse group of Brothers in our lodge. Masonic and philosophical discussion, degree work and promoting the Craft are just some of the things he enjoys about being a Mason.

Since he has joined Denver Lodge #5, he has proven to be a big asset to the Fraternity helping out with degree work and on the Fraternal Activities Committee. We’re glad to call him “Brother.”

Say hi to him at our next meeting.

This is the first installment in our new series where we will introduce some of our members. These are the up-and-coming leaders of our Fraternity. These are men from all walks of life. Fathers, sons, husbands… and we all call each other Brothers. These are just some of the stories behind Denver Lodge No.5.

Meet Sean. He is one of our newest Fellowcrafts and a great guy all around. We’ll let him introduce himself in his own words.

I have lived in Colorado since 1998. I am a father of 3. Being a father has proved to be more challenging, rewarding, and enriching than I have ever thought. I love to cook, hike, snowboard, and listen to music. Music is dear me, as is my vinyl collection. From Miles Davis to Jane’s Addiction and everything in-between… Nothing beats it.

Freemasonry and the Brothers of Denver No. 5 have been a wonderful addition to my existence. I look forward to sharing space and breaking bread with these gentlemen on the first and third Thursdays for Lodge and then to congregate outside of Lodge for some great and memorable times! Brothers in every sense of the word. It is a diverse group of guys and a group that you will find it hard not to strike a meaningful conversation with.

Sean has a great future in the Fraternity. Say hi to him at our next meeting.

March 2017

Pablo Colomban Events, Master's Message Tagged

Greetings from the East,

I’d first like to congratulate Brother Sean Murphy, who we Passed to the Fellowcraft degree at our second stated communication in February. And a job well done by our degree team!

The unseasonably warm weather has invigorated the Brethren and we have a lot of activities planned for March. For our first stated meeting on March 2nd, we will be having a joint communication at Park Hill Lodge #148.(4819 Montview Blvd) This is a great opportunity to visit another Temple building and Lodge that we would otherwise not be able to attend since they meet on the same night as Denver #5.

On Saturday March 4th we will be “freezin’ for a reason“ once again at the Boulder Reservoir Polar Plunge. Even if you are not taking the dip, come out and support. See W.B. Tom Schotts for details.

On Monday March 6th, at 6:30pm we will be visiting Rocky Mountain Lodge #1 F&AM, PHA. (4200 E. Colfax.) If you haven’t had a chance to visit a Prince Hall Lodge, you are missing out! Contact Kory Wilson SW to RSVP

We will be holding a special communication on March 10th to do Master Mason proficiencies and vote on a petition.

We are exciting to be taking part in the annual Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday March 11th. It’s always been a lot of fun to hit the Downtown Denver streets and especially to promote the Fraternity. Details will be out soon.

At our second Stated Communication on March 16th, we will be initiating three candidates into the Fraternity. These are great guys that we have come to know and we are excited to have them join us!

Don’t forget that scholarship applications are out now and can be downloaded on our website. The deadline for applications is April 7th.

See you at Lodge!

Sun’s Out Guns Out!

The first outing for the newly formed Denver Lodge No.5 Rod & Gun Club is here! So as to not bombard everyone’s inbox, after this initial email, all R&G Club emails will only go out to those who have asked to join, so if you are interested in receiving future emails regarding the Club’s events, contact Pablo.

We are going to be heading out to Colorado Clays in Brighton for a morning of shooting on February 25th. The range offers a 25 yard pistol range, 100 yard rifle range as well as skeet and trap.  I suggest going to their website to answer any questions regarding the facility.  The cost for using the 25 and 100 yard range is $20/shooter/hour.  If you are interested in trap or skeet, those costs are also shown on the website .

This range is located at:

13600 Lanewood St.
Brighton, CO  80603

Bro. Michael Rotert, who is heading this trip up, will plan on arriving at the range at 10am.  If anyone interested in shooting needs any advice or a quick safety lesson, we can do this out in the parking lot before heading in.  He will be bringing several pistols and a couple of rifles.  If you don’t have a gun, but would like to shoot, you are welcome to try any of Bro. Michael’s, you will just need to buy the ammunition.  There are also guns that you can rent from the range.

Everyone will also need eye and ear protection.  If you don’t have either, they can be purchased at the range.

If you will be attending, please RSVP with Bro. Michael Rotert.

A Day at the Colorado Ballet!

Brother Ari Breitman has graciously invited the Brethren to a performance at the Colorado Ballet on Sunday February 26th at 2pm at a discounted rate. Ticket prices will vary depending on group size. If you are interested, contact Curt Robinson, JW.

Colorado Ballet will present a collection of three master ballet works to live music by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra in Ballet MasterWorks. The production includes Firebird, by choreographer Yuri Possokhov, Choreographer in Residence for the San Francisco Ballet and music by Igor Stravinsky.  The ballet is based on the Russian folklore tale of the Firebird, a magical bird with dazzling glowing feathers who helps a prince rescue a beautiful maiden from an evil sorcerer.

Ballet MasterWorks will also feature Serenade, choreographed by George Balanchine to Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings in C.”  Serenade was the first original ballet Balanchine created in America and includes unexpected events from the first rehearsals into the choreography.  The ballet includes 28 dancers in blue costumes in front of a blue background and according to the Balanchine Trust, the ballet is a milestone in the history of dance.

Rounding out the program, Colorado Ballet will perform Petite Mort by choreographer Jiří Kylián and music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  Kylián created Petite Mort for the Salzburg Festival on the second centenary of Mozart’s death and according to his website, he based the choreography on two slow movements of two of Mozart’s most famous piano concertos.  He said that in the moment of ecstasy or pleasure, people are reminded of the fact that life is short and death is relatively close.  This is the first time that Colorado Ballet will present a Kylián ballet.

February 2017

Pablo Colomban Events, Master's Message, Scholarships Tagged

First off, congratulations are in order for Brother Jordan Rice and Brother Daniel McCoy, who received their Fellowcraft Degrees! And a job well done to the D5 degree team! You have once again exemplified our amazing ritual work.

At the time of writing, the 2017 Grand Lodge session has not begun, but your Principle Officers will be in attendance and we will report back to you with all the details and any news.

We had a lot fun in January at events like the cigar night, family bowling and the DU hockey game. Thank you to all who came out! The Lodge also sponsored two tables at the annual Burn’s Dinner at the Denver Consistory. A good time was had by all as usual and we look forward to being there again next year. Bring on the haggis!

January was a busy month and I expect February to be no different! At our first Stated Communication in February, we are lucky to have W.B. Nick Freeburg give a talk on a topic of importance to all Masons, the Art of Memory. For our second Stated Communication, we will once again be on the FC Degree to pass two Brothers.

Other fun activities going on in February will be cigar night (Feb. 9), game night (Feb. 11) and billiards (Feb. 23). We’ve had great turn-outs in January, so please RSVP here so we can be sure to have enough room for everyone. We are constantly adding activities so check the website for updates.

We will also be visiting our Brothers at South Denver Lodge No.93 for their Stated Communication on February 21st. They will be raising a Brother to the Master Mason Degree.

Don’t forget that scholarship applications are out now and can be downloaded on our website. The deadline for applications is April 7th

Thank you all for a great January. Now let’s make February even better!

Pablo Colomban,
W.M.Denver Lodge No.5 A.F. & A.M.

NOTICE

We have a few spots available on our D5 Golf League. Please contact our Junior Warden to reserve a spot for group lessons.

The Denver Lodge No. 5 Rod and Gun Club is also taking names for our first event, a fly fishing 101 class. We will set a date once we have a list of names. Please contact Pablo Colomban W.M.

We’re looking to set up a distillery tour at Laws Whisky in Denver. This event will take place in March but we need to start taking reservations. Again, please contact Pablo Colomban W.M.
