June Trestleboard

Greetings from the East!

Summer has arrived, and with it, longer days and a chance to catch our breath. Whether you’re spending time with family, traveling, or just enjoying a quiet evening on the porch, I hope you’re all finding time to reflect and recharge.

Also this month, we celebrate Father’s Day, which always makes me think about the importance of guidance in our lives from the men who helped shape us. Not just our fathers, but also mentors, teachers, or even other Brothers in the Craft. Let’s take a moment to honor them too and recognize the same role we play for others. As Masons, we are to be pillars for people look to, not just for words, but for steady presence and quiet leadership. It’s a responsibility, but also a privilege.

June also brings with it the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. More light in the sky and within ourselves. I like to think of it as a reminder to keep in focus the Light we all swore to pursue. Not just the knowledge we gain in lodge, but the understanding and clarity we bring into our daily lives.

Even though we’ll take a break from Stated Communications for the Summer. We’ve still got a busy and meaningful month ahead. We’ll be conferring the MM degree to Brother Jason Keeler on June 7th at Nevada 4 Lodge, and I encourage as many of you as possible to come out and support him. Also, several Brothers are planning to visit Idaho Springs #26 on June 18th. Lastly, Ruby Hill Park has been chosen for the Summer Picnic on June 22nd, so we’ll look forward to seeing you there.

Let’s all take care of ourselves, enjoy the season and warm weather, and never hesitate to reach out to a Brother—whether you need a hand, a coffee, or just someone to talk to. That’s what we are here for.
Fraternally and appreciatively,

Stephen Carlson
Worshipful Master
Denver Lodge No.5

Brothers!

Although Denver #5 is dark over the summer, the Masonic fun and fellowship does not have to stop.  Please join me and several Denver #5 officers on Wednesday, June 18, as D5 visits Idaho Springs #26, one of the state’s more historic Masonic lodges.  Idaho Springs #26 provides dinner (suggested donation of $10) at their building (210 17th Ave., Central City, CO) at 6:30pm, before moving upstairs at 7:30 for their lodge meeting.

Idaho Springs #26 is just 40 minutes up the mountain. It is one of the informal mountain lodges, so a suit is unnecessary. Jeans and a polo shirt will fit in nicely.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

May Trestleboard

Greetings from the East!

May is on the horizon, and with it comes more and more daylight. The sun lingers a bit longer in the sky, and its warmth carries further into the evening. It’s a small but powerful reminder that light endures, and that even during darker seasons of our lives it will slowly and steadily return.

In many ways, this time of year can remind us of our Masonic path. Just as the light stretches further each day, the light within us also grows and increases. We can each encourage that growth through our actions, our words, and the way we carry ourselves in the world.

This month, I encourage each of us to reflect on the ways we can grow and increase our light. Not rapidly, but steadily and consistently over time. Whether that’s checking in on a Brother you haven’t seen in a while, mentoring someone new to the Lodge, or simply bringing a positive spirit to our next meeting. All of those encourage light to grow and spread.

I look forward to the work ahead through degrees, charitable work, and great fellowship. Thank you for the light you bring to our Lodge. Let’s keep encouraging it to grow together!

Fraternally and appreciatively,

Stephen Carlson
Worshipful Master

Greetings (again) from the East!

I hope and trust that everyone is doing well as we approach the start of March. Some changes have been made to an event announced in our previous trestleboard, so I wanted to make sure everyone is informed.

Thursday, 03/06 – Our Stated Communication, originally scheduled to take place at Eastern Star Retirement Home for EA degrees, will now be held back at the Welton St. building to ensure a better experience for our candidates. Dinner will still be at our usual time, 6:30 PM, and we’ll keep it simple with pizza. The degrees will follow at 7:30 PM. (Officers, please plan to arrive by 5:30 PM for an early opening.) Please RSVP here in advance so we can finalize the headcount for food.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

Fraternally and appreciatively,
Stephen Carlson, Worshipful Master, Denver Lodge No.5

Trestleboard

Greetings from the East!As we welcome March, we also welcome a season of balance. The Vernal Equinox is on March 20th which marks a moment of perfect balance, when day and night are both equal. It’s a reminder of the balance we seek in our own lives and in our Masonic journeys. Spring is also a time of renewal—nature begins to wake up, and so can we. It’s the perfect opportunity to reflect, refresh, and renew our commitments, both to ourselves and to each other.

With the days getting longer and the air warmer, let’s take inspiration from the season and strive for balance. Like the changing seasons, we also have moments to grow and evolve. Let’s use the coming of springtime to pause, appreciate the progress we’ve made, and look forward to possibilities ahead.

Whether you’re delaying the start of spring cleaning or the enjoying the excitement of March Madness (no judgments if your bracket’s already in bad shape), let’s remember that this season is about more than just chores, games, or weather—it’s a chance for all of us to reset and find the balance we need to keep moving forward.

We look forward to seeing you at our meetings next month, where we can continue our journey together and support one another in this season of renewal.

Fraternally and appreciatively,
Stephen Carlson

February 2025 Trestleboard

Trestleboard

Greetings from the East!

As we get ready to move into February, which is traditionally a month filled with expressions of romantic love, it’s a good time to pause and reflect on the type of love that truly unites us as Masons – Brotherly Love.

Romantic love with all its intensity can be wonderful, but it’s often fleeting, conditional, and can quickly change with circumstances. Sometimes even the best of intentions get tested and fail. But Brotherly Love is something far stronger. It’s the kind of love that is rooted in respect, care, and an unwavering commitment to support each other through whatever challenges life may throw our way.

As Masons, we share a bond that’s built not on temporary emotions, but on something much more enduring. Brotherly Love means standing by each other through thick and thin. It’s about helping each other grow, lifting each other up when we’re down, and celebrating together when things are good. It’s not about what we can get from one another, but what we can give.

As we navigate the chocolate isles, flower stores, dinner plans, and all the other reminders of romantic love next month, let’s all take a moment to remember the special kind of love we have for one another as Brothers. It’s a love that doesn’t fade or vanish. It is strong, dependable, and rooted in the shared belief that we’re all in this together. As Masons, men, and as a Lodge

I encourage you all in February to not only reflect on what Brotherly Love means, but to live it out each day. Let’s be the brothers who show up for one another, who lend a helping hand, and who treat each other with the kind of respect and care that truly reflects the values that our Lodge stands for.

Fraternally and appreciatively,
Stephen Carlson

May Trestleboard

Greetings from the East

Firstly, congratulations to Brother Donald Stewart on receiving your first degree in Masonry! I hope you enjoy your journey. The Polar Plunge with the nonexistent “polar conditions” was still a lot of fun and the money donated went to a great cause.

Our first communication on May 5th we will be hearing several proficiencies from hard-working brothers on several degrees. So, we will be opening on the first degree but need to step up to the third degree to hear them all. As always please RSVP for dinner.

Our second communication on May 19th will be our annual scholarship night. This is an open night so please bring your family and friends along. Denver 5 officers we will be opening early at 5:30 to take care of any business before dinner. With a usually larger than normal turnout for this event is really, really important that you RSVP for dinner.

Summer is approaching fast, and with it, Denver 5 goes dark for the months of June, July, and August. We do this out of tradition but rather than going dark it feels appropriate to say we go dim. There is more work to get done and there are several fun events planned and in the works for continued fellowship throughout the summer months. For instance, the Scottish Rite Clays for a Cause is happening on May 27th. So be on the lookout for communications informing you of all the summer happenings.

Fraternally yours,
James Bechtel
