April Trestleboard

Greetings From the East!

Congratulations to Bro. Brian Neeper on your initiation into Freemasonry! Your journey is just beginning. March was a lot of fun with events that took place outside of the lodge room. A big thank you to the brothers who participated in the St. Patrick’s Day parade and to the brothers who made the long drive to visit with Pueblo No. 17. Both events were truly enjoyable!

For our first communication of April, we will open on the EA to hear a proficiency. Then we will hear an education from WB Rob Jones of East Denver No. 160 on the topic of “Effective Masonic Communication.”  If you plan on attending dinner at 6:30, please RSVP.

At our second Communication of the month, we will be initiating two more worthy candidates into the brotherhood of Freemasonry. If you would like a specific part, please reach out to JW Joshua Ruegsegger to secure a spot for you. As always please RSVP if you plan on attending dinner.

The annual Boulder Polar Plunge is scheduled for Saturday, April 9th. This is a fun event that helps support the Colorado Special Olympics. if you haven’t yet, please reach out to WB Tom Shotts to get on the list.

Last chance to get scholarship requests turned in for our annual scholarship night in May. Everyone could use a little extra help so If you or anyone you know who is looking to further their education, please consider having them fill out the scholarship request forms and have them submitted by April 15th for review. Applications are available here.

Fraternally yours,
James Bechtel

March Trestleboard

Greetings from the East!

I hope everyone was keeping warm during those extra cold days we had during the month. I know I am definitely looking forward to seeing the tulips start growing and the longer days of daylight saving time!  Congratulations to Brothers Ben and Alex on being raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason! It was a long but fun night and we’re all very proud of both of you!

I’d like to bring to your attention that it’s very important for both Masons and non-masonic visitors to RSVP if you plan on attending dinner. It helps aid us in making sure there is plenty of food for all without much waste. You can very easily RSVP for all dinners here.

We have a busy March planned out. Our first communication of March 3rd we will be taking care of some business then cut out early and hold some fellowship over a few brews. Please RSVP for dinner here.

Saturday, March 12, Denver No.5 will be marching in the 60th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This is a family event with so much to see and the whole event is a lot of fun! Lets get as many people out as possible to march and support D5! Reach out to me if you want to attend.

Our second communication, March 17th, we will be initiating a new brother into the craft. Be on the lookout for a cast sheet from Bro. Joshua Ruegeseeger JW. Please RSVP for dinner here.

On March 28th, I would like to visit Pueblo Lodge No.17. One of their members “playfully” claimed my gavel at our last meeting while we were at ease and I intend to get it back! Pueblo No.17 meets at 126 Broadway Ave. Pueblo, Co. 81004. they have dinner at 6:30pm with lodge at 7:30 if you plan on attending this visit please let me know so we can RSVP with Pueblo No.17

The annual Polar Plunge at Boulder Reservoir for the special Olympics is April 9th if you haven’t taken the plunge then I suggest you do. Contact WB Tom Shotts to get you on the list.

Deadlines are approaching for our Annual Scholarship Night. Applications are due to the lodge by April 15th. If you or someone you know is furthering their education and could use a little extra support then please get an application filled out and returned to Denver No.5.

I look forward to seeing you all again!!

Fraternally yours,
James Bechtel

2022 February Trestleboard

February Trestleboard

Greetings from the East!

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Worshipful Brother Michael Rotert and the members of Denver 5 on making Honor Lodge! WB. Rotert worked very hard last year on bringing D5 back to in-person meetings after all the covid lockdowns. Secondly, it was so great to see so many brothers and their partners at the annual “Burns Night Supper.” This event was canceled last year because of Covid, and it was heartwarming to see all the brethren dwelling together in unity again…and of course, the haggis was delicious!! (Chef kiss)

For our first stated communication this month (Feb. 3rd) we will be taking care of the unfinished business of installing the remaining officers in their places. MWB. Claud Dutro has something from Grand Lodge he would like to present to the Lodge and because of an unforeseen situation I was unable to have my talk on the “Northeast Corner.” so I’m bringing that into this first meeting. If you’re planning on attending dinner, please RSVP here.

Our second communication of the month (Feb. 17th) we will be raising 2 brothers to the sublime degree of a Master Mason. We are going to be opening early on the 3rd Degree this night. So D5 officers, please be there by 5:45 pm to open.  I will be getting the cast sheet put together soon and there will be at least one practice before the degree happens. Please RSVP here for dinner.

Big things are in the works this year. Denver 5 is helping sponsor the first annual Clays for a Cause Scottish Rite Sporting Clays Classic on May 27th. This is promising to be a fun event that will help support a great cause. You can register and sign up for sponsorship at scottishritesportingclays.com.  Also, the 2022 Polar Plunge is in the works and will be happening soon in the spring. For some reason, it’s always a lot of fun running into that frigid water! Contact WB Tom Shotts to participate. Come on out to both events if you can!

Fraternally yours,
James Bechtel

January 2022 Trestleboard

Greetings from the East!

I hope everyone has had a fantastic holiday season with full bellies and full hearts. I know this month I’m going to be dusting off that gym equipment in my basement to work off all the holiday treats that magically seem to show up on my plate.

We’re going to start the new year off with a bang! For our first meeting on Jan. 6th, we’re going to be initiating a new brother into the fraternity. Be on the lookout for an email from Bro. Josh Ruegsegger JW with the cast list. There will be a practice on Wednesday, Jan. 5th at the Welton Temple. I highly recommend those on the list be in attendance for the practice. If you plan on attending dinner please RSVP.

At our second meeting, January 20th,  we’re going to open on the EA but step up the MM degree to hear some proficiencies. Then we’ll step back down to the EA to have a quick, open forum discussion on “The Northeast Corner. Please RSVP for dinner.

The Knights of St. Andrew are hosting their annual “Burns Night Supper” on Saturday, January 29th at the Denver Consistory. If you have never attended one of these dinners, this is an incredibly fun event full of bagpipe music, poetry, and of course…haggis! Spouses/significant others are welcome to attend and if you would like to join in the fun please RSVP with WB Pablo Colomban to get you on the list.

We are honored to help sponsor the 2022 Clays for a Cause Scottish Rite Sporting Clays Classic on May 27th! This is a great cause and promises to be a fun event. You can register and sign up for sponsorship at scottishritesportingclays.com

Fraternally yours,

To all my frozen Brothers:

It’s that time of year again!  I don’t have a confirmed date as yet, however, it will be in mid-March to mid-April next year.

This is how we will roll:
1.  If we register during January we will get a Freez-E pass, with which we will be able to hop in line whenever we want.

2.  We will, with WB James, determine an amount of money to register with.  As in the past beginning with the first meeting in January, we will bring out the mason jar. The purpose is for those who would like to make a personal donation or contribute their parking money.  Whatever is collected in the jar will be added to the Lodge contribution.

3.  If you are interested in participating in 2022 please let me know ASAP.  If you have never plunged with us, I will need your name, email, and phone If you plunged last year, I just need your name, I have all of the information from last year.

Do not reply to this email. You can email directly to tomshotts@comcast.net

There have been some new events added to our calendar that I want to share with you all.

This Thursday, October 21, we will be opening early at 5:30 on the 2nd Degree to hear a proficiency and then will step up to the 3rd.  After dinner, we will be conferring three MM degrees.  Please come support your Brothers as they receive more light. RSVP here.

On Wednesday, October 27 we will be having a practice for receiving the Grand Lodge. We will also be opening a Lodge on the 2nd Degree to hear a proficiency.  This will be informal and dinner will not be served so no need to RSVP.  Officers, please plan on attending this meeting.

On November 4, it is Denver 5’s Heritage Night. Officers of the Grand Lodge will be in attendance.  This meeting is open to the public, so please bring your significant other so they can see what you do on Thursday nights.  It is very important that you RSVP with Bro. Junior Warden for dinner.  You can RSVP here.

On Thursday, November 11, we will be having our annual Heritage Raising.  This is a special communication where we will be Raising two Brothers to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason.  Dinner will be served at 6:30 with the degree work starting promptly at 7:30.  This is an event that you will not want to miss. RSVP here.

Lastly, we will have a Stated Communication on Thursday, November 18.  This is going to be a quick meeting to handle business. Dinner will be served at 6:30 with the Lodeg opening at 7:30.  You can RSVP here.

I appreciate everyone’s involvement with everything going on right now.  Everyone has put a lot of time and effort in and I feel like we are getting back to where we need to be after having so much time away from Lodge in 2020.  This is all because of you Brothers!
