Greetings from the East!
I’m very excited to see everyone again, and I hope summer has brought many memories to you, your families and loved ones.
I’ve always enjoyed this time of year because it feels like a deep breath between seasons. The relentless heat of summer starts to relax, the days shorten enough to notice, and there’s an occasional cool breeze that hints at what’s coming. Historically this was the time when farmers gathered their crops, to finally get their payoff for months of hard work.
For us, it’s a reminder that what we plant in our own lives eventually comes back to us. September is a good time to take stock and see what has been growing in our lives lately.
This month also brings the autumn equinox, a rare balance of light and dark. It’s nature’s way of reminding us that balance isn’t something we achieve once and for all. It’s something we must continually adjust and calibrate daily.
As we get ready to step into the cooler months, let’s carry forward the light and warmth we’ve gathered this year. Let’s bring our best ideas, our best energy, and our best selves to the Lodge and anywhere else we may find ourselves.
Fraternally and appreciatively,
Stephen Carlson
